A few things to agree on before booking
Attendance at all lessons in the course is expected. Once booked, the course is not refundable. Please cancel any lesson that you are unable to attend, using the booking system TeamUp. If you cancel with a minimum of 24 hours before the start of a one:to:one lesson or 2 hours before a group lesson, you will be able to use your credit to take an appropriate catch-up lesson with Jane Mansley Fitness and Pilates. Early cancellation increases the chance of someone else being able to use your place, so we kindly request that any cancellations are made at your earliest convenience.
If your instructor needs to cancel one of the classes, they will attempt to notify you by email. Please respond to the email so that your instructor knows that you have received notice of the cancellation. If you do not reply, your instructor may attempt to contact you by phone.
Jane Mansley Fitness and Pilates typically delivers 37-38 lessons per year for each class, based around school terms. In the event that you miss a lesson, you are encouraged to take an equivalent catch-up lesson. This is best taken within a week either side of the missed class. The Body Control Pilates Freedom Membership plan is priced at the equivalent of 30 drop-in lessons per year, to allow you to miss a few classes without losing out. Please do not ask for a discount if you go on holiday during term time. The number of lessons delivered each month varies, but the price is spread evenly throughout the year, including during the summer holidays.
In the unlikely event that Jane Mansley Fitness and Pilates are unable to deliver a lesson, they will endeavour to run an extra session during the school holidays. If this is not possible, a proportionate refund will be offered if the total delivered by the end of the academic year for that class falls below 34 classes (pro-rata for memberships started other than on 1 September). This is not applicable to students paying for drop-in classes.
There are inherent risks associated with any physical exercise program, including Pilates, that cannot be eliminated without compromising the effectiveness of the program. It is your responsibility to obtain consent from your doctor, where necessary, before booking a Pilates course. In booking, you accept the risk of injury and you acknowledge and accept that any advice provided our instructors at no time constitutes professional medical advice or substitution for your own professional medical advice. You are expected to keep your instructor informed of any relevant changes to your medical condition. Please do not attend a class if you are unwell.
Please let your instructor know if you experience any pain during or after the exercises. Muscle soreness may be experienced during or after a workout and may last up to three days. With regular participation, these sensations normally diminish. It is normal to experience a “burning” sensation in muscles as they work. While this is sometimes described as “pain” by those not used to working out, there should not be any real pain during or after Pilates. You should be healthy enough to get up and down from the ground, be independent enough to be safe with verbal direction and be responsible to know when to stop or ask for a modification if needed.
You have permission not to do every single exercise, and not to do every repetition - it is the instructor's job to provide a level of challenge for you, and your job to understand and work within your limitations!
Your instructor may used tactile cueing to correct your alignment or movement. This is a normal part of Pilates instruction; however it is not compulsory, so please let your instructor know if you would rather they avoid physical contact with you.
Jane Mansley Fitness and Pilates will try its best to provide you with a single instructor for the duration of a course. Occasionally, it may be necessary to use a cover instructor. The cover instructor will be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 Matwork Pilates, and fully insured.
Lessons will start and finish on time. Please arrive punctually - if you are late, your time cannot be made up. The instructor reserves the right to refuse admission to late arrivals. Please wear clean socks and comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing. Your belongings are left at your own risk.
All equipment will be provided, however, you are encouraged to bring your own mat. Pilates mats can be purchased inexpensively, and other fitness mats, such as yoga mats, are an adequate alternative. If you do not have your own mat, please bring a towel to help keep the shared mats hygienic.
