About Jane Mansley
I'm a Girton-based Pilates and fitness instructor. I run classes in and around Cambridgeshire, specialising in Body Control Pilates® and STRONG Nation®. My classes are suitable for all fitness levels and I aim to make them welcoming, fun and very effective. I'm committed to professional development and have been qualified to Level 2 Exercise to Music since 2011, Level 3 Instructing Pilates Matwork since 2015 and I am a registered backcare professional. I'm also appropriately insured and first aid certified. In 2018 I became a Body Control Pilates® teacher. My Philosophy My philosophy is that exercise should be about having fun and feeling good - for life! I believe that eating a balanced diet and taking enjoyable exercise are the most important and effective ways to look after your body. If you can't sustain a restrictive diet or a gruelling exercise regime, you won't enjoy the benefits in the long-term, and you'll soon be back where you started. However, there's no one-size-fits-all system. Competitive team sports are fantastic for some people; others thrive in environments where they can progress at their own pace. You don't need to look 'a certain way' to come to my classes. Pictures in the media - including the fitness media - often represent distorted images of what it means to be fit and healthy, and this can lead to negative self-esteem. I am happy with my body, and guess what? It's okay to like a body that isn't Instagram perfect. It's much healthier to like what is realistic for you than to strive for the unobtainable. Feeling good is about being valued for who you are, overcoming challenges and maybe having a bit of a giggle. I offer exercises with high and low alternatives so that everyone can work at their own level, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Although as an adult I've long been interested in looking after my health and fitness, this hasn't always been the case. If you'd met me at a school PE lesson, typically picking daisies during a rounders match, you would be surprised to see me as a fitness professional today! I favoured sciences over sport, and have a PhD in genetics. I worked as a conservation biologist for ten years, taking up fitness instruction in 2011. My family includes two lovely daughters and a husband who keeps fit by running, skiing and Pilates. |
