Pilates is a mind body system used by both health professionals and specialist exercise professionals to strengthen the body and improve posture, co-ordination and flexibility. I teach Body Control Pilates both on the mat and reformer as a functional exercise system to aid you in your daily life while giving a taller, leaner physical appearance through improved posture. The emphasis on precise movement and good technique helps to develop mental focus, and offers an effective method of relaxation.
Pilates is safe and effective for enhancing general health and fitness at any age. It can be adapted to accommodate a range of injuries and help to improve sports performance. Pilates does not replace treatment from a health professional. If you need assessment or rehabilitation for any musculoskeletal conditions, I recommend that you visit Motus Physiotherapy.
I teach small group classes of up to 12 students and also provide one-to-one tuition, both in person and on Zoom. One-to-one Pilates offers you an individual programme to address your needs and goals.

As well as the bodyweight exercises performed on the mat, Joseph Pilates created a complete system of exercises using a range of studio apparatus. Central to his system is the Pilates reformer. This piece of apparatus is comprised of a sliding carriage held under spring tension. A diverse range of exercises can be performed on the reformer, many of which relate to ones that matwork students will be familiar with. The spring tension gives extra feedback to the body, making it easier to improve quality of movement. The set up can be modified according to the needs of the user; for example adding or removing springs will change the resistance to add challenge or assistance to help you achieve the movement that you want. I offer 1:1 classes using the reformer on Wednesdays 2-7 pm at Dynamic Osteopathy Cambridge.

In addition to learning with me in live classes, you can also access Pilates lessons via a video on-demand service. These are available exclusively to students who are working with me and wish to take extra lessons outside of my usual timetabled hours. The service includes a mix of classes recorded live on Zoom, and specially created additional content.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, my on-demand library is available free of charge to monthly subscribers. |
